Grace is recovering from being in the operating room for ten hours on Monday!

She is doing well for the most part, given they had to work on her little heart for almost twice as long as expected. As anticipated, there are a lot of ups and downs. We wanted to share a quick update/on some prayer requests.

  1. Gracies left lung got pretty injured in the OR. The doctors are hoping that it will heal with time. however, this is causing her to be intubated (a tube breathing for her) for longer than expected. She REALLY hates being intubated. Please pray with us for the best-case scenario, her lung to heal enough to be fully extubated early this weekend.
  2. Gracie has been increasingly more agitated with care, so they have to keep upping her morphine doses. On some occasions, they need to give her a stronger sedative.
  3. Gracie is still on A LOT of medicines. She can’t move out of the ICU on so many, so please pray those can continue to be weaned and eventually stopped.
  4. Mott’s has a number of kids preparing for or recovering from HLHS surgeries (Norwood, Hemi-Fontan, and the Fontan operation) as well as other CHD-related surgeries, so please join us in praying for successful surgeries and fast recoveries.

We also want to share some praises:

  1. Our wonderful surgeon and her attention to detail caught Gracie’s additional bleeding. Also for making sure her scar (a Heart Warrior’s beauty mark) looks great.
  2. The nurses and doctors who are managing Gracie’s care and constantly tweaking her meds and oxygen levels to ensure she has the best mix for her.
  3. Gracie has been able to be weaned from some medicines and slightly on her oxygen support.
  4. Mott’s has a wonderful pediatric-specific ICU (PCTU) and we are grateful for its wonderful staff.

Thank you all for your continued support and prayers,

Abby and Tommy
